After hoping for the newest trailer for Elden Ring, the latest offering from From Software & Bandai Namco was shown during the Summer Games Fest event. The game was saved to the very last moments to be seen and it ended the show with a bang. Take a look.

Knowing Bandai Namco has their own event later this weekend it was surprising to see this now. The trailer was chock full of gameplay for us to see and know that like many other From Software titles, we will be dying … a lot.

At its core, the game looks to stick true to the concepts From Software pioneered. You will play as a character, most likely dead somehow, exploring a dreary world filled to the brim with creepy-looking monsters and everything that wants to kill you again. Combat seems to also stay in line with that of the Souls franchise, relying on sword/magic combat, acrobatic stunts, and a little bit of luck against gigantic, creepy-looking, yet immensely powerful enemies; and sometimes a mimic.

Elden Ring is a collaboration between From Software President Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin, famous for his A Song Of Fire and Ice (Game of Thrones) novels. While Miyazaki was the most driving creative force on the project, Martin helped him lay down the story framework. According to its creator, it was similar to “Dungeon master’s handbook in a tabletop RPG.”

The trailer also ended with a release date for the game. Fans can look forward to playing Elden Ring on January 21st, 2022 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Microsoft Windows
