Kingdoms Of Amalur Reckoning is one of the most depressing stories in gaming. The title was praised for its incredible fantasy world and outstanding RPG elements and sold 1.2 million copies in 90 days. However, due to poor executive decisions, the developer 38 Studios went bankrupt. In fact, a great video from Matt McMuscles provides a great explanation of how much of a disaster this project was.

Back in September 2018 THQ Nordic purchased the rights and assets for the game’s canceled sequel Project Copernicus however publishing rights still belonged to EA. In a surprise turn of events, THQ Nordic has announced that a remastered version called Kingdoms Of Amalur Re-Reckoning will launch this August.

The title will include all DLC in the original game and handled by Kaiko who did the remasters of the Darksiders series. THQ Nordic has a long history of purchasing dormant IPs and re-releasing them as HD remasters. They did it with deBlob, Red Faction, and more. With the other highly anticipated remasters being Destroy All Humans! and Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated.

If the game does well maybe THQ Nordic will invest in a sequel. They own the assets after all.

Kingdoms Of Amalur Re-Reckoning launches in August 2020. No official date or platforms were confirmed.
