April was jam-packed with some huge releases. (Both the Resident Evil 3 and Final Fantasy VII remakes released last month.) Comparatively, May is a bit quieter, but we’ve still got some gems to look forward to!

Void Bastards – Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4
Release Date: May 7th

Void Bastards is a roguelike, science-fiction first-person shooter from Australian studio Blue Manchu and published by Humble Bundle. First released in May of 2019 for Windows and Xbox One, the game has received praise for its art style and gameplay, and the PC version currently sits at an 81 on Metacritic.

Star Wars Episode 1: Racer – Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4
Release Date: May 12th

Star Wars Episode 1: Racer, is a racing game based on the podracing scenes in Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. (It’s also a remake of the same game that came out first in 1999.) All of the racers from the movie are in the game, as well as the Boonta Eve racecourse as well. The game also adds new courses and locations not featured in the movie.

Maneater – PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release Date: May 22nd

Maneater took E3 by storm with its initial showing at the PC Gaming Show in 2018. From Tripwire Interactive, you play as a shark who is getting revenge for the death of your mother in a story that’s narrated by Chris Parnell of all people! From the official Steam listing:

Experience the ultimate power fantasy as the apex predator of the seas – a terrifying SHARK! Maneater is a single-player, open-world action RPG (ShaRkPG) where YOU are the shark. Starting as a small shark pup you are tasked with surviving the harsh world while eating your way up the ecosystem.

Minecraft Dungeons – Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release Date: May 26th

Minecraft Dungeons is a dungeon crawler developed by Mojang and published by Xbox Game Studios. (Seriously, think Minecraft meets Diablo without the Heaven vs. Hell stuff.) There’s going to be local and online co-op for up to four players, new mobs specific to Dungeons, and loads and loads of loot to find as you work to defeat the evil Arch-Illager.

Bioshock: The Collection / Borderlands Legendary Edition / XCOM 2 Collection – Nintendo Switch
Release Date: May 29th

We wrote about these games heading to the Switch, and now that day is (almost) here! Bioshock: The Collection is indeed that; a remastered collection of Bioshock, Bioshock 2, and Bioshock Infinite with their single-player content. (Bioshock 2’s multiplayer is not.) It also includes the challenge game modes from each game, and a director’s commentary with Ken Levine.

Borderlands Legendary Edition includes Borderlands, Borderlands 2, and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Almost all the major add-ons from the console and PC releases are included, but if you’re looking to play Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary, you’re unfortunately out of luck.

The XCOM 2 Collection includes the base game, XCOM 2: War of the Chosen, and four DLC packs to go along with it to outfit your team. The Resistance Warrior Pack, Anarchy’s Children, Alien Hunters, and Shen’s Last Gift will all be available.

Those games aren’t all, however; if you’re looking for a sports game, first-person shooter, or visual novel, May has some of those lined up for you as well!
