Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s battle royale mode Warzone launched this week to positive reception. Reaching 6 million registered players in just 24 hours.

In comparison, Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends reached 2.5 million players in its first 24 hours. This could mean that Activision’s latest take on the battle royale genre could take on Epic Game’s Fortnite.

Call of Duty is one of the most recognized and acclaimed IPs in entertainment. And with a free-to-play mode like Warzone it can reach a larger audience. As opposed to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Blackout mode which required purchasing the base game.

Warzone is now available for free on PS4, PC, and Xbox One. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available on the same platforms.
