Weeks before DOOM Eternal’s release Bethesda and id Software have pushed the release date. It’ll now release this March 2020. An update on DOOM Eternal: pic.twitter.com/2LWrfh6e4Z — DOOM (@DOOM) October 8, 2019 The news comes from the official twitter account for DOOM. “Throughout the development of DOOM Eternal, our goal has been to deliver a game that exceeds your greatest expectations across the board,” said id Software in a statement accompanying the delay announcement. “To make sure we’re delivering the best experience — for DOOM Eternal to live up to our standards of speed and polish — we’ve made the decision to extend our launch date by a few months to March 20, 2020. We know many fans will be disappointed by this delay, but we are confident that DOOM Eternal will deliver a gaming experience that is worth the wait.” Bethesda is taking a major risk as March 2020 is where acclaimed titles such as Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy VII: Remake, and The Last of Us: Part II will launch. However, considering Bethesda’s already infamous notoriety following Fallout 76 releasing anything but a nearly bug-free game is paramount. Not to mention the microtransaction filled mess that was Wolfenstein: Youngblood. Bethesda needs a game to redeem themselves and Doom Eternal could be that game. I just hope it works and isn’t full of monetization options.
