Something shocking happened today. The Worldwide Studios head of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Shawn Layden, will be leaving Sony. The news just dropped today with Sony confirming it on the official PlayStation Twitter account. It is with great emotion that we announce that Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden will be departing SIE. His visionary leadership will be greatly missed. We wish him success in future endeavors and are deeply grateful for his years of service. After all, Sony is riding high this console generation. After the massive head start the system skyrocketed into popularity thanks to its gaming first attitude. Releasing several highly acclaimed first-party titles such as Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Ratchet and Clank PS4, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Marvel’s Spider-Man. With The Last of Us: Part II coming this February 2020. Layden is the second major executive within the big 3 console manufacturers to leave their position. With former Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime retiring this year from his position.
