Yooka-Laylee debut back in 2017 to mixed reception. Many found the characters and environments charming but the heavy focus on collecting items to progress the story was harshly criticized for being dated. But the duo of Yooka and Laylee have a new adventure set to release this year. Focusing on classic platforming and 2D adventure called Yooka-Laylee and The Impossible Lair.

The trailer, seen above, provides a good idea of what players can expect. Instead of a fully explorable open world, Playtonic will mix together 2D and 2.5D environments, with an open HUB area to explore. With more focus placed on platforming challenges and puzzle solving instead of collecting pages.

Like the original. The game will keep its charming characters and crisp animations. From a visual perspective, the game looks extraordinary.

Yooka-Laylee and The Impossible Lair is coming to Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One this year.
