During EA’s EA Play 2019 we finally got footage of Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. Featuring Alpha gameplay of the title to provide a glimpse of what players can expect this November. And most of it is underwhelming.

The footage shows Jedi in training Cal Kestis, one of the survivors of Order 66, fighting alongside Resistance Fighters on Kashyyak to rescue Wookies taken prison by the Empire while also disturbing their operations.

We see Cal is capable of using his Force powers for both platforming and fighting such as wall-running, force push and pull, and time manipulation. The first enemies are basic Stormtroopers who die in a single hit. The more formidable foes are the Purge Troopers and giant spiders native to the planet. With the Purge Troopers able to use the Cal’s Force powers as momentum to increase their attacks and the spiders able to take more damage.

Much of the platforming is what you would expect. Climbing and using the Force to push specific things to make paths or break barriers. The gameplay footage ends with Cal being ambushed by a KX-series droid before cutting to black.

Those wondering if Cal can change sides similar to Starkiller, the answer is no. During a short Q&A section Respawn said that this is a “Jedi story”.

Much of the gameplay is mediocre. Nothing really stood out and the end of the trailer, which should get gamers excited for the game, features a basic enemy that Cal will face throughout the game as indicated by the montage shown after the active gameplay footage. As this point, I’m worried that Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order will turn out to be a standard platforming action title.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 15, 2019.
