Announced earlier today by Nintendo, Tetris 99 is getting fresh content titled the Big Block DLC. Available immediately for $9.99, the update includes an offline CPU Battle mode and the return of the classic Marathon.

In CPU Battle you battle 98 other bot-controlled ‘players’ in classic Tetris 99 style, with all the previous features like Targeting and none of the stress of knowing another person is trying to take you down. It has the potential to be a great place to practice before jumping back online.

Marathon mode is a revamp of the original Tetris, where the player tries to clear as many lines as possible and rack up their score before the tetraminos stack too high and knock you out.

Both modes are available immediately, with Nintendo promising more DLC modes to come. Getting the Big Block grants a player access to future content with the one-time purchase.

Also announced was the 3rd edition of the competitive Maximus Cup. Running from May 17th to the 19th, players can compete online to earn higher rankings and bragging rights. If a player earns 100 points during the three-day event they will unlock a new theme based on the classic (and some would argue best) version of Tetris for the Game Boy.
