Layoffs within the gaming industry are becoming increasingly more common. With Telltale Games and Capcom Vancouver closing last year and recently the 800 people laid off at Activision Blizzard following record profits. Now, developer of Guild Wars 2 ArenaNet may be next.

The news has been hinted by Kotaku’s Jason Schreier who stated that CEO of Korena publisher NCSoft West, which owns ArenaNet Songyee Yoon is looking to cut cost due to the company’s business revenue decreasing while western cost increase.

Songyee Yoon, the CEO of Korean publisher NCSoft West, which owns ArenaNet, e-mailed employees this afternoon with the news. “Our live game business revenue is declining as our franchises age, delays in development on PC and mobile have created further drains against our revenue projects, while our operating costs in the west have increased,” she wrote. “Where we are is not sustainable, and is not going to set us up for future success.”

Yoon explained that slow development of a variety of unannounced projects at the studio is also a factor to the layoffs.

When we hear more we’ll let you know.
