The 7-minute Pokémon Nintendo Direct turned out to be a preview of Pokémon‘s 8th generation of games. These two titles, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, will be coming to Nintendo Switch later in 2019.

The new Pokémon games take place in the region of Galar. The Galar region appears to be inspired by England, with many nods to famous iconography like Big Ben.

We got a glimpse at three new starter Pokémon: Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble. Grookey is a small green monkey who’ll serve as the Grass-type starter. Scorbunny is a spunky bipedal rabbit who’ll be this generation’s Fire-type start. Finally, Sobble is the wide-eyed tadpole who rounds out the three as the Water-type starter.

For now, not much is known about the game. However, the trailer gives plenty to marvel at. Just look at the game’s fog and lighting effects– you’ll wish that the 3DS games ever looked this good. It’s a small snippet of what’s to come for the series’ proper Nintendo Switch debut.

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will release worldwide in late 2019 for Nintendo Switch. Hopefully, that’s enough time for you to decide who to start the game with: whether you’re part of the Grooky Gang, Scorbunny Strong, or Team Sobble.
