In an interview with The Verge, Amazon confirmed that their popular streaming channel, Twitch was banned in Mainland China.

The popular app reached the top three most downloaded free apps. The popularity of esports in China has grown exponentially in the last few years that lead to an increase if download and traffic for Twitch. In the height of the Asian Games, after the state-run broadcaster CCTV decided not to run the competition, viewers had to rely on the alternative to view their teams in action.

Due to that the Twitch app’s downloads was twenty-three times higher than ever, they banned it as a “censorship precautionary action” and the app itself was removed from the app store.

It is not clear if Twitch will remain banned like Facebook and Twitter or if the streaming channel will come back with some censorship restriction.
