Today was an unsettling day to be part of Telltale Games. The studio issued massive layoffs today that resulted in only 25 staffs left. Now it has been confirmed that the acclaimed studio is facing a “majority studio closure” as of today.

A statement made by CEO Pete Hawley made the news official.

“It’s been an incredibly difficult year for Telltale as we worked to set the company on a new course. Unfortunately, we ran out of time trying to get there. We released some of our best content this year and received a tremendous amount of positive feedback, but ultimately, that did not translate to sales. With a heavy heart, we watch our friends leave today to spread our brand of storytelling across the games industry.

Telltale will issue further comments regarding its product portfolio in the coming weeks.

The future of Telltale Games is currently unknown with Gamasutra reporting that the studio’s upcoming projects have been canceled following the news.

The Walking Dead: The Final Season is still set to release, with the second episode coming September 25th. No word if this news will change to predetermined dates.

Other studios have reached out, providing job openings at their studios for those affected.
