Following in Nintendo’s footsteps, and their massive success with releasing classic consoles, Sony is releasing their own. The PlayStation Classic will release this December and include 20 games. We know that Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3, and Wild Arms have been confirmed but there are some titles that should be part of the list. Here are seven games that should be part of the PlayStation Classic library.

Spider-Man

Everyone is enjoying Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man but the PlayStation game was one of the rare superhero good superhero games. The graphics weren’t excellent and the camera was horrible but the gameplay and story provided games the best possible Spider-Man game of the era. Not only did it give players the chance to face iconic enemies such as Scorpion, Mysterio, and Carnage but the story was full of memorable moments you would expect from a Spider-Man comic or movie.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2

The Tony Hawk series has fallen on hard times since the release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5. The unfinished game soured this legendary sports franchise but it’s time to show gamers why this series holds such acclaim.

The first game in the series set the edifice. Giving players ample stages and precise controls to pull off insane gravity-defying moves. However, it was Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 that put this franchise on top. The elaborate stages, incredibly challenging objectives, multiplayer, and insane unlockables gave players a lot of reasons to not only unlock everything but continue to push themselves for higher scores.

Metal Gear Solid

Widely regarded as one of the best PlayStation games every made Metal Gear Solid set the standard for not only stealth action but narratives. The in-game cutscenes provided movie-like writing with elaborate political conspiracies and multi-layered characters with motives that far exceeded the characters in other games.

The gameplay itself was constantly testing the player to manipulate the AI to avoid detection. Boss battles were the real test, with unique challenges that required the player to think creatively such as using specific weapons and tactics or switching the slot of your controller. There’s a reason why Metal Gear is held to such as high standard, it’s because Hideo Kojima and Konami took massive risks that paid off in the end.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

Rarely do games maintain their quality decades after their launch but Castlevania: Symphony of the Night successfully accomplishes this. Not only do the 2D graphics still look outstanding but the gameplay makes this PlayStation classic one of the most intricate Metroidvania games of all time. Multiple endings, unique boss fights, an overwhelming selection of weapons and armor, elaborate paths with hidden passages, and so much more. To this day Castlevania: Symphony of the Night stands as one of the best action-adventure games of all time.

Spyro the Dragon

Spyro the Dragon was a fan favorite for the PlayStation in it’s time, so much so that the game is getting a remastered release Spyro Regignited Trilogy for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 coming later this year after a brief delay. Our fire breathing friend led us on several adventures along with his trusty companion Sparx and made a lasting impression on a generation.

Mortal Kombat II

The age of fighting games pre-dates the PlayStation but old and new systems have provided a giant platform for the fighting game genre. Of the games that made a notable impact along with Street Fighter and Tekken was the Mortal Kombat series. Mortal Kombat II on PlayStation was a stark improvement from the original Mortal Kombat with insane levels of blood, violence and fatalities making it one of the most successful fighting game franchises to date.

Twisted Metal 2

Twisted Metal 2 brought its vehicular combat mechanics to a new level when it was released for the PlayStation back in October 31st, 1996. In a time when vehicles were considered to be exclusively part of the racing genre, the Twisted Metal franchise broke the mold and added a fresh new idea to the gaming world. The Twisted Metal series features a “twisted” storyline, an iconic clown, a rocking soundtrack of different music styles and a massive following asking for the next gen release of the series. Twisted Metal 2 is considered to be one of the highly regarded releases from the series and a hopeful inclusion in the upcoming PlayStation Classic.
