In the past few years, Square Enix brought some of its popular IPs to the mobile market as puzzles games in a list of titles that includes Lara Croft GO, Hitman GO, and Deus Ex GO. However, Square Enix has announced that there won’t be any more “GO” titles and that they’re moving on to different ideas for mobile games.

According to Square Enix Montreal’s head Patrick Naud, competition against free-to-play games has been a challenge. All three “GO” games are priced at $4.99, which presents a slight barrier for players. “You’ve got more and more high-quality free titles, so there are even fewer and fewer people inclined to try something that will not be free,” Naud noted to PC Games Insider. “The perception of choice makes it that even if it’s only $5, that’s too much.”

Square Enix Montreal will continue to develop mobile titles, even if the GO series has come to an end. They will perhaps reconsider their approach to the mobile market and how to thrive in an ecosystem with strong free-to-play choices.

In the mean time, Lara Croft GO, Hitman GO, and Deus Ex GO are available for $4.99 for both iOS and Android. All three are currently on sale for 99 cents each for Android.
