One of the most infamous examples of crossplay support comes from PS4 versions of Fornite. When it launched for Nintendo Switch PS4 owners were required to make a new account to play on the hybrid console. Epic Games has stated that this is a Sony rule and gamers on the PS4 are livid. According to EX-CEO of Sony Online Entertainment John Smedley, the reason is money.

According to Smedley “They didn’t like someone buying something on an Xbox and it being used on a Playstation. Simple as that. Dumb reason, but there it is.”

At any rate, fans have started to believe this statement as Microsoft, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile versions do support cross-platform play.

Fortnite is now available in early access on Xbox One, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.
