It’s been years since we’ve seen a Scribblenauts game, but now the franchise is returning with Scribblenauts Showdown. 5th Cell, who created the series, isn’t making this game. Instead, it’s being developed by Shiver Entertainment and will feature new modes including competitive multiplayer. The sandbox mechanics will return, allowing up to 2 players to solve puzzles across 8 levels using any object they can think to summon. The series’ signature art style will be used and players can customize their characters. The competitive modes will include 25 2-player minigames. All games can be played with 1 player and set to endlessly shuffle. Showdown is the brand new mode which features board game style gameplay. Here, players compete in a variety of minigames called Wordy and Speedy. In Wordy, players try to outsmart the other player using items. Speedy has players competing to complete challenges as fast as possible using Scribblenauts‘ various items. Scribblenauts Showdown is currently slated to release for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One on March 9.
