Oh dear. EA has recently stepped into an enormous PR nightmare. Star Wars Battlefront 2‘s progression system relies heavily on Star Cards and the in-game currency of credits. Unlocking your favorite Star Wars icons is difficult and takes hours upon hours to achieve in the current system. When fans realized it would take over 40 hours to unlock Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader– the most iconic Star Wars characters of all time, they voiced their discontent on Reddit. In attempt to justify Star Wars: Battlefront II‘s character unlock and progression system, EA responded to a fan thread on Reddit. Unfortunately, this only backfired on them. EA’s post has since become the most disliked post in the history of Reddit. The post? You can read it here: The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes. As for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch. Among other things, we’re looking at average per-player credit earn rates on a daily basis, and we’ll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay. We appreciate the candid feedback, and the passion the community has put forth around the current topics here on Reddit, our forums and across numerous social media outlets. Our team will continue to make changes and monitor community feedback and update everyone as soon and as often as we can. EA has since announced that they plan to lower the cost of heroes by 75%. However, they plan to adjust the game’s economy to still maintain the difficulty of purchasing new heroes. It’s not entirely the compromise players want, but the changes are EA’s way of responding to the backlash properly.
