In 2009 FromSoftware released Demon’s Souls, the first installment in the Dark Souls franchise. The game would set the tone for future games from the developer such as Dark Souls and Bloodborne. After 9 years the online service of the game is being shut down according to statements from Sony Japan, Atlus, and Namco Bandai, the game’s publishers in Japan, the US, and Europe, respectively. “After 9 years of reoccurring deaths and frustrations, but just as many triumphs of dedication, Demon’s Souls online servers will terminate on February 28, 2018. Play online one last time, and share with us your best Demon’s Souls moment!” according to the game’s official Twitter. Since its launch, the Dark Souls franchise has garnered a massive community following and earned extensive praise from critics. The franchise has become an edifice for rating the difficulty of other video games similar to how the original Crysis determined the strength of ones PC during its release. The final installment in the franchise, Dark Souls 3, is now available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
