Farewell, Miiverse. A recent Nintendo Tweet states that they will terminate the Miiverse for Wii U and 3DS, Wii U Chat, and Miiverse TVii services on November 8, 2017. Miiverse offered a Twitter-like social network platform for players to share drawings and messages online. These posts would sometimes be integrated into games as a feature, like Super Smash Bros. for Wii U‘s Miiverse map or Splatoon‘s lobby. Numerous titles will be affected by the loss of Miiverse. You can no longer upload replays from Mario Kart 8 or Super Smash Bros., utilize BLADE reports in Xenoblade X, and more. We’ll especially miss the loss of memes in the first Splatoon‘s Inkopolis Plaza. The Nintendo Switch has rendered the need for such a feature moot. By offering a Share button that lets players post directly to Twitter or Facebook, Nintendo no longer had a need to utilize their own social media system. Splatoon 2 retains its colorful plaza of goofy player-submitted drawings by simply integrating it as a feature of the game. So, the death of this feature was only a matter of itme. If you want to enjoy these features while they last, you’ll have until November to make use of them. Miiverse will officially shut down on November 8 at 3:00 PM JST.
