Before the official reveal of Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle during Ubisoft’s E3 2017 presentation, marketing materials for the game had leaked and went viral. The leaks presented a tricky challenge for the development team, who would have to hype up the game despite an initially rough backlash.

Now, a Eurogamer interview with creative director Davide Soliani and composer Grant Kirkhope sheds light on how the team reacted to the leaks. The interview shows how leaks might affect a developer team, and in an age where leaks are incredibly common, there’s particularly interesting insight given by this video.

As you’d expect, Soliani states that it was “quite hard on the team morale.” However, its positive reception at this year’s E3 was quite rewarding for the team. Soliani and Kirkhope’s story is definitely worth your attention; check it out below.

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle will release on August 29th as a Nintendo Switch exclusive.
