Frederator Studios, the company that brought you Adventure Time and Bravest Warriors, has teamed up with Netflix to create a gritty animated series based on Konami’s Castlevania series. The first teaser is now here: bringing the NES world of Castlevania to life as an animated epic. The teaser starts off with a de-make of Netflix for the NES (Because apparently, the NES, like most consoles today, was capable of Netflix video streaming). They want you to know that this take of Castlevania is rooted in the series’ games from that era, and that this re-imagining is Castlevania as it was meant to be. But enough talk, have at you! It’s gory, dark, and action-packed. While it seems a bit surprising from Frederator, Adi Shankar is at helm as the series’ producer. He’s best known as the director of the R-rated dark Power/Rangers short film. The Netflix series will follow “the last surviving member of a disgraced clan [who] fights to save Eastern Europe from Dracula.” The trailer shows someone who appears to be a member of the Belmonts and a character who may be Alucard, who debuted in Castlevania III. The Castlevania Netflix series will debut on July 7.
