We live in a pretty interesting time where we study what teens think is cool because that’s important. All joking aside, understanding how teens perceive games and consoles will greatly impact how they are marketed. In a recent study by YouGov and Gutcheck, commissioned by Google, appropriately titled “It’s Lit,” found that teens under 18 thought that Xbox was “cooler” than PlayStation. This, however, does not ring true for those 18-25 years old whose console preference leans towards Sony’s PlayStation. Sadly, Nintendo didn’t even break the top 10 list of “Coolest Brands.” This, however, might just be a change in how we game and use the systems. The report also found the VR and AR were noted as the “coolest” tech right now, along with mobile phones. As far as video games go, The Legend of Zelda, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Pokemon, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive are listed among the top series preferred by teens. In total, the study surveyed 2400 individuals labeled as teenagers or millennials. Take the information with a grain of salt though, a lot of the detail in the report provides qualitative information and was limited to the US. So, what do you think is the coolest console?
