Genji joins Tracer, Zarya, and Lucio as the next Overwatch character to be introduced into Heroes of the Storm. His home turf, the Overwatch map Hanamura, will also be coming to Heroes of the Storm as a brand new map.

Blizzard’s official page for Genji describes him as an Assassin hero. He’s a bursty damage dealer, but can’t take much damage. His ability to climb walls in Overwatch is being adapted into his passive ability, Cyber Agility. Cyber Agility lets him leap over walls, which gives him some strong ganking and escape tools.

Here’s a list of his abilities:

  • Shuriken (Basic): Throws three shuriken in a spread pattern to deal damage. Three charges of this move can be stored, and its cooldown restores all three charges.
  • Deflect (Basic): For 1.25 seconds, Genji blocks damage and automatically fires back Kunai, dealing damage to the closest enemy.
  • Swift Strike (Basic): A forward dash that deals damage to enemies in the area of effect. The cooldown and mana cost of this ability is automatically replenished if an enemy hero dies within two seconds of being hit by this attack.
  • Dragonblade (Heroic): For eight seconds, Genji unleashes his sword, just like his Ultimate in Overwatch. In conjunction with Swift Strike, he can lunge forward to deal damage in a large arc. Swift Strike’s replenish condition still applies.
  • X-Strike (Heroic): Unique to Heroes of the Storm, Genji slashes his target twice to deal damage. After 1.25 seconds, an area of effect deals additional damage.

Hanamura is a two-lane map with a cool gimmick. Get ready to push the payload in a whole other game, because Hanamura introduces Overwatch-like payloads as a key mechanic to this new map. Payloads can damage the other team’s core and they’re even more powerful when forts and keeps are destroyed.

This marks the first ever Overwatch map in Heroes of the Storm. Blizzard explained why they chose to bring Hanamura out of all Overwatch maps to choose. According to production director Kaeo Milker, the number one thing “was the aesthetics. It was so different from everything else that we had done in Heroes.”

Currently, you can see Genji and Hanamura in beta. They will arrive into the public server in Heroes of the Storm‘s 2.0 update.
