Like Yooka-Laylee Kickstarter campaign, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has some bad news for backers who opted to receive the Wii U version of the game. The Wii U version has been cancelled; the team is instead going forward with a Nintendo Switch version of the game. Koji Igarashi (IGA) delivered the news via a Kickstarter update. The team was hard at work on a Switch release and wanted to announce it to their backers. However, later down the line, they decided to cancel the Wii U version and the big Switch reveal unfortunately accompanies this bad news. Here’s how IGA explained the decision to cancel the Bloodstained‘s Wii U release. During our Kickstarter campaign, the Wii U was at the height of its popularity, but the situation has drastically changed after the release of Nintendo Switch. This change made it difficult to receive the necessary support from the hardware maker, which has led us to drop the Wii U development and shift the development to Nintendo Switch. If you opted for a Wii U copy of the game, you will automatically be swapped to the Switch version of the game. If you’d prefer to receive the Xbox One, PS4, or PC version of the game, you can use the same link to the backer survey that you were previously sent. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will release in 2018 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
