Empoleon, the final evolved form of Generation 4 Pokémon‘s water starter, has graced Pokkén Tournament‘s arcade version with his royal presence. A recently published trailer shows off what he brings to Pokkén Tournament‘s roster. The trailer opens by giving him a neat title that I’ve loosely translated as “the Sharp and Sturdy Pokémon with the Personality of a Lofty Royal.” He enters battle by making an entrance on a wave and posing with his arms folded. You’ll notice that he uses a lot of regal gestures, like dusting off its cravat-esque feathers after a fight. Using Surf, Empoleon creates waves that he can ride on and attack his opponent with. He’s also got a number of powerful moves with his flippers and can use Aqua Jet to headbutt his enemies. One of his most noteworthy mechanics is the ability to make the ground icy, and use it to his advantage. As expected of an enormous penguin, he’ll be able to glide on the ice to quickly move around the field. Empoleon’s reveal for Pokkén Tournament‘s arcade version was only a matter of time. Previously, fans anticipated his release around the beginning of November, because his files could be found in the game’s data. However, Bandai Namco threw a curveball when Croagunk was revealed in his stead. So far, Bandai Namco and Nintendo have yet to patch the Wii U version of Pokkén Tournament for any of the recent fighters announced for arcade availability. For fighting games, arcades tend to be the first place that updates and balancing patches are tested first. Hopefully, we’ll see Darkrai, Scizor, Croagunk, and Empoleon on Wii U consoles in the future.
