Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered‘s latest update introduces a number of new features not present in the original game. The most noteworthy of the update’s content includes the introduction of micro-transactions, female playable characters, and the return of the remaining maps from the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare base game.

Microtransactions weren’t previously present in the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. However, supply drops, which were introduced in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, have now been integrated into the game. Essentially, supply drops are randomized loot drops containing cosmetic items that include weapon camos, alternate reticles, different character skins, and more.

You will be able to earn these through Depot Credits, which can be earned in-game or to use Call of Duty Points, which are earned through real-life currency. Alternatively, if you prefer not to spend virtual or real life currency on the game, you can complete in-game challenges for supply drops,

Through the Operation Arctic Wolf supply drop, you might be able to earn female character models to play as online. Female characters were originally not present in the original release of the game. So, even if the content is locked behind the randomized loot of supply drops, adding female characters is a welcome addition to the game. The Operation Arctic Wolf supply drop will also allow you to obtain new weapon camos, reticles, uniforms, emblems, and calling cards.

The update brings new items that can be found through the supply drops or crafted using Parts, the counterpart of Infinity Warfare‘s Salvage. These items include new melee weapons like a shovel or a hammer.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered launched with only 10 of the original 16 maps. The update delivers the remaining maps of the base game so, now, you can choose from six new maps that include Bloc, Countdown, Pipeline, Showdown, Strike, and Wet Work.

Winter Crash, which was originally PC exclusive in the 2007 release, also makes an appearance this holiday season across all consoles. You will be able to play Winter Crash in a 24/7 holiday-exclusive playlist. By completing challenges during the holiday playlist, you can unlock Gift Wrap and Ugly Sweater themed camos for each weapon class, so make sure you earn these before they’re gone.

If you don’t have Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, the game remains only available to the $80 special edition copies of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. However, Activision will make the game available for free-to-play from December 15 to 20. So, if you’d like in on the most recent update but don’t own the game, give it a try then.
