One of the core elements of the Pokémon games, trading, is currently missing from the newly launched mobile game, Pokémon Go. Fans, however, may be happy to learn that the CEO of the game’s developer has confirmed that a new trading feature will be introduced through a future update.

“It’s kind of a core element,” Niantic Labs’ John Hanke told Business Insider. He isn’t wrong. Trading has been a part of the games backbone ideas since the beginning.

Unfortunately, Hanke did not share any real specifics about how trading would work or when this update that adds the feature would arrive. He did, however, say trading is a logical extension of Pokémon Go‘s themes, as it encourages players to come together, both in the real world and/or the virtual one.

Hanke gave fans a little more teasing that other new features will include improvements to PokéStops and Gyms, which the CEO said are now only their “very most basic versions.” The new update will allow players to “customize their functions in other ways.”

As if that wasn’t enough, Hanke also confirmed that a new feature coming is a global leaderboard system. This will rank the world’s best Pokémon Go players. Now fans can find out where they rank in the world or even just amongst their friends. Users can also look forward to improvements to the game’s augmented reality system to make Pokémon look better when blended into the real world.
