Overwatch has only been out for around two months, but Blizzard is already working on new heroes for fans to obsess over. Rumors have been flying around the internet on what to expect, but now, the developer is stirring the pot with an ‘in-universe weapons document’.

The image – introduced on Blizzard’s Twitter page – presents a weapon supposedly created by both Mercy and Torbjörn. Their blueprint notes suggest it was originally intended as a biotic device, until Torbjörn’s modifications transformed it into a potentially deadly sniper rifle. The notes read as follows:

“TL [Torbjörn]: As discussed, this is the proposed rifle that could be equipped by medics in the field. Despite what my esteemed colleague will surely suggest, the application of her biotic is only to be intended for healing.

“AZ [Mercy]: While Torbjörn has, as ever, put forth a very clever design for his latest weapon, I would like to remind everyone that my intention when agreeing to the development of different biotic delivery mechanisms was to save the lives of Overwatch agents and others in need of medical aid. With this latest proposal, it is clear to me that we are on a slippery slope to modifications that will inevitably result in a weaponized version of this technology: something that I have been completely opposed to from the beginning”

Mercy is clearly opposed to violence and will not be wilding the weapon, so someone else will. Although the actual hero who will wield the sniper remains unseen.

Overwatch already has two sniper characters in the form of Hanzo and Widowmaker. However the new design seems to be one that specializes in healing. As you might have guessed, wild speculations have broken out all over the internet. Some say the new character is Pharah’s mother, who mysteriously disappeared after Overwatch disbanded. Others believe it might be a new person named Sombra (and other believe those two are the same). Whatever the case you can rest assured Blizzard will have official confirmation soon enough.

In the meantime, continue playing the incredibly frustrating yet addictive Competitive mode while you wait for the news. Gamer  Assault Weekly will give you updates as they are made available.
