Looks like the rumors were right. Blizzard’s Overwatch is getting an open beta and the full game will launch in May, the developer announced today. The beta will run May 5th – 9th across Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. It will be a totally open beta and anyone can play it, but people who preorder by April 29th can play starting May 3rd and they can invite a friend, too. Below is the Game Director, Jeff Kaplan, announcement video.

It was announced that during the beta, players will get to try Overwatch’s full roster of 21 heroes, as well as every map that will be available in the full launch game. “We want players to get a feel for the complete Overwatch experience”.

The full version of Overwatch, priced at $60, launches on May 24th across all three platforms.

If you’ve been patiently awaiting your shot to fight in the new shooter, Overwatch, your time may be closer than you think. Although the advert briefly appeared on the IGN website for Blizzard’s team-based multiplayer shooter has since been removed, of course, images of it were captured and posted on Reddit.

Seen above, the ad reveals that Overwatch will officially be released on May 24th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. However, that’s not all! It appears that an “open beta early access” will begin on May 3rd for anyone who pre-orders the game before April 29th. All of this is to be taken with a grain of salt but according to the twitter account Blizzard Watch it will “most likely” happen
