Today Nintendo announced the release date for it’s first smartphone game in Japan.

The news came via a Tweet from the Nintendo Twitter account. The company revealed that Miitomo will be available on Thursday, March 17 in Japan.

Currently there is no word on a release date for the game in the west.

In Miitomo you can create Mii characters and share them as part of your gallery photos across social sites. Nintendo has described Miitomo as “a free-to-start social experience that uses Mii characters and lets you spark conversations with your friends in a whole new way.” Additionally your Mii characters can inter act with other Miis once you share it.

Miitomo will be free to play and will be supported by microtransactions that will allow you to purchase additional clothes and items via Miitomo coins. Coins can be purchased with money or earned through playing the game.
