The colorful and messy multiplayer shooter Splatoon has been a big hit for Nintendo, with the company reporting sales of 4 million units since its release in May of last year. Those numbers put Splatoon among the Wii U’s bestsellers (6th overall), with about a third of all Wii U owners having purchased the game. Splatoon is not just one of the highest selling Wii U games to date, it is also one of the best-selling new IPs of 2015. These numbers come as part of a larger financial report released by Nintendo that show Wii U lifetime sales reaching 12 million, an increase in operating profits, and a decrease in overall sales compared to the same April to December period in 2014 The report also notes that sales of Super Mario Maker have reached 3.3 million units globally. Total game sales for the Wii U have reached 79 million, a paltry tenth of the Wii’s lifetime game sales. Nintendo is looking forward with its newest console, codenamed the NX, which is rumored to be a combination of handheld and traditional console . Production is rumored to have begun in October of last year. For more news on Splatoon, the Wii U, and the mysterious NX, keep it locked to Gamer Assault Weekly.
