On Friday, Motiga the developer behind the upcoming game Gigantic has announced a round of layoffs.

The studio made a post to their website stating that the company has laid off a “significant percentage” of it’s staff. According to the post the studio was unable to support the entirety of the studio. CEO Chris Chung said, “Our financial situation is such that we are unable to continue supporting the entirety of the studio at this time.”

The layoffs affected several departments in the studio, but how will this affect the development of Gigantic? According the Chung the development and support for the game will continue “for as long as [they] are able.” He explained, “It is of course our goal, and our deep hope, that we are able to secure the necessary funding in the near future in order to bring Gigantic to market.”

Gigantic was originally slated to release in 2015 but has since been delayed to 2016. A specific release date for hte game has not been revealed.

We send positive vibes to those who have been affected by the layoffs and hope they land in new positions soon.
