E3 2015 is about 3 weeks away, and it looks like one of Sony’s projects might have just been revealed via a new trademark filing with the US Patent and Trademark Office.

The patent is for a title called “The Player”, and what makes this patent unique is that it is listed as both “downloadable electronic game software; video game software” and “entertainment services in the nature of a dramatic television series.”

A video game/TV crossover is something that has been tried before by SyFy with Defiance and overall it didn’t work out so well. The show is still on TV, but the game is now completely free to play and hasn’t lived up to expectations. Microsoft has also been trying to set up a TV/game crossover with Quantum Break, but the project has been delayed time and time again due to development issues and “polish” concerns.

There isn’t much out there on ‘The Player’ aside from the trademark filing, but if this is something that Sony wants to pursue quickly, then there is a high probability that it will be shown at E3 this year.
