Steve Bristow, one of the pioneering minds behind the Atari 2600, passed away on Sunday February 22nd. The news broke on Facebook from Atari historian Marty Goldberg.

Bristow played a critical role in the development of the Atari along with Nolan Bushnell and eventually took over Atari’s coin op division and help with the development of classic Atari games like Breakout and Tank. After his time as head of coin ops, Bristow became the VP Engineering of the Consumer and Home Computer division. Needless to say, Atari might not have been as successful without the extensive contribution from Steve Bristow.
