Keeping with German law, special editions of Wolfenstein: The New Order will be released in German and Austria without and Nazi imagery. In addition to this unique editions, Bethesda plans to also geo-lock the international PC version in those regions, to prevent users from activating international copies of the game.

According to law, the distribution of material featuring Nazi related content is illegal in Germany and Austria. If Bethesda were not to make these changes, it would “result in confiscation of the game, a high financial penalty or up to three years in prison,” Bethesda said in a statement. Besides these alterations, the German and Austrian editions of Wolfenstein: The New Order will be exactly the same as any other region.

“Please note that the adaptation is in respect of Nazi content only, and although there are some legally required differences, the levels of violence and action remain the same as in the international version.”

We recently reported on the requirements for Wolfenstein: The New Order, which detailed both the PC and console recommended requirements.
