After a twitter account, @playgauntlet, had surfaced many rumors spread about the possibility of a Gauntlet remake. Today, we can confirm that a reboot of the classic dungeon crawler is in the works as Aarowhead Game Studios made the announcement via their Twitter account.

The original game was one of the first multiplayer arcade games and was developed by Atari in 1985. The reboot of the title will be developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and published by Warner Bros. Aarowhead Game Studios is well known for it’s work on Magicka.

Gauntlet will get a fresh new look with a new art style as well as being “completely modernized” as an action-RPG of the game. Warner Bros Senior VP of games David Heddad sid,

“With Gauntlet we combined the arcade style of the original game with a completely new look and feature set that includes emergent, local and online four-player gameplay.”

While an official release date for the game has not been announced, it will be available mid 2014 for PC via Steam.
