Sony announced today that the Playstation 4 will not support infrared remotes, which means that you will not be able to connect a universal remote to the system. According to CNET, their PS4 review system didn’t even have an IR receiver on the system.

The Playstation 3 was also lacked any sort of IR sensor which lead to the creation of IR to Bluetooth converter boxes that allowed IR remotes to be used with the system. What most people don’t know is that Sony sells remote controls for the Playstation 3. In fact, a quick Google search reveals that the PS3 remote can be found at most retailers for a pretty reasonable price.

Sony has confirmed that they will release a Bluetooth remote for the PS4, but until that time, users will have to use their regular Dualshock 4 controllers to watch movies and browse around on the system.
