Ryse: Son of Rome has been skewered over its use of QTEs and relatively mindless button mashing gameplay, but one thing gamers have to agree on is the fact that it looks like a next-gen game. Both the environment and character models are packed with rich textures and realistic lighting effects to provide a near lifelike feel for the game world and its inhabitants. Marius Titus looks as if he were plucked straight from an episode of HBO’s former Rome series, and his fellow soldiers feature similar levels of detail.

Microsoft is banking on Ryse to help sell Xbox Ones, so to help drum up more interest it has released a slew of new gameplay screens. Each screen offers a perfect look at the game’s high level of visual polish, so if you want to see what the next-gen fuss is all about, then you should definitely head on down below to see for yourself.

Ryse: Son of Rome is an Xbox One exclusive that will release alongside the console on November 22, 2013.
