Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai made $1.6 million in the last fiscal year, a period where PlayStation posted it’s first profitable year in 5 years.

Hirai’s journey at Sony started in 1984 when he joined the company as a part of it’s music division. In 1995, he switched to the Sony Computer Entertainment division where he helped successfully launch both the Playstation 2 and Playstation 3. In 2006, he was promoted to president of SCE International and helped turn around the PlayStation division that was losing money at the time. He was promoted to CEO of Sony last February and has helped the company turn around it’s business practices, and he is looking to make more good press when the Playstation 4 releases in November of this year.

His $1.6 million dollars in compensation for his successful job at Sony can seem meager when compared to other entertainment industry CEOs. For example, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick made $8.33 million this fiscal year.

Hirai’s future as CEO looks bright. He has overseen the successful announcement of the Playstation 4, and is hoping to see the gaming division take off in this new console generation. Hopefully Hirai will enjoy a long tenure as Sony CEO, and we can continue to enjoy SCE products for a long while.
