PopCap Games has finally revealed the release date for Plants vs. Zombies 2, which will be July 18, 2013. The sequel will only be available for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad at launch. What’s even more interesting is that this game will employ the free-to-play model that many mobile titles have adopted over the past two years. Yes zombie killers, you can take out the undead with various types of flora for free!

This type of game model may scare fans of the PvZ franchise, but EA did confirm in a press release that Plants Versus Zombies 2 will allow gamers to play through it in its entirety for no money down, zero APR, and no monthly payments. It’s free, but there will be in-app purchases for gamers who want to take their zombie yard defenses to the next level. That’s as much information that EA is willing to share at this point, so it’ll be interesting to see just how “free” PvZ 2 is when it release on July 18th.

While you wait for the 18th you can check out a new CG trailer for the game that also released today after the break. It features everyone’s favorite pot-hat wearing neighbor – Crazy Dave!
