One of the major criticisms of Battlefield 3 was it’s very linear single player campaign. There was no choices to make, no options, and no alternate routes, everything was set before you in a very linear path. That is an issue that the DICE team is determined to overcome with Battlefield 4. According to Karl Magnus Troedsson, studio head at EA DICE, their plan to improve the Battlefield 4 single player experience is by implementing features from their wildly popular multiplayer.

“There are signature multiplayer elements that we want to bring into single-player,” said Troedsson. “We want to give the player a choice. Do they want to go for the sneaky approach with a sniper rifle and a silenced pistol, or do they want to take a jeep and have the entire squad shoot at everything they see?”

The new Frostbite 3 engine opens up a world of possibilities for Battlefield 4, so it will be interesting to see how DICE takes advantage of their new technology to improve on an already great franchise.

Battlefield 4 is set to release on October 29th for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, and will be a launch title for PS4 and Xbox One.
