Xbox One Technical Specs Nick C May 21, 2013 Featured, News, Xbox One During the Xbox One announcement, Marc Whitten, corporate vice president of Xbox Live, came out to tell us a little about the Xbox One’s technical features. The tech portion of the presentation didn’t last very long and wasn’t very detailed, but Whitten did say just enough to get fans interested in the hardware inside the Xbox One and some of the improved software features. In a brief overview of the system specs, Whitten says that the Xbox One is sporting 8 gigs of RAM, a 64 bit architecture, and will have usb 3.o ports integrated into it. He didn’t say anything about the type of processor the machine is running or what kind of video card it uses, although he did say that the system utilizes “over 5 billion transistors.” Little else was said about the system hardware during the presentation. According to Whitten, the Xbox One will run 3 different operating systems in order to integrate and utilize all the new features that are packed into the Xbox One. One OS will be the native Xbox operating system, one will run off the new Windows 8 kernel, and the third will be a custom made operating system to take care of all the multitasking. These three operating systems will work together to bring you an awesome entertainment experience like only Xbox can. Whitten also mentioned that the new Xbox One controller features 40 new innovations, including direct trigger stimulation and motion controls in conjunction with the Kinect. Whitten went on to speak about the immense storage and computation capabilities of the new Xbox Live system. The new system will feature 300,000 servers that will be used to store your movies, music, games, and saves all in one convenient and easy to reach location. Whitten pointed out that the 300,000 servers that Xbox Live will be using adds up to more computing power than the whole world had in 1999, pretty impressive! All this computing power will allow for “direct game computation and living persistent worlds” on Xbox One. The Xbox One will also feature native video capturing and video editing software which will make it easy to record and edit in game videos. Matchmaking will also be integrated into the Xbox One itself, instead of relying of the individual games for matchmaking like the current Xbox 360 does. Whitten did not say how this feature will work, or if all games will support it, but it is an interesting feature for the console to boast.
