Wolfenstein: The New Order, the upcoming alternate – history shooter from Bethesda and MachineGames will not have multiplayer, both studios confirmed to Gamespot.

The shooter which is releasing on both current and next generation systems will only have a single player campaign. This is task that MachineGames does not take very lightly.

Creative Director Jens Matthies said,“It’s such a huge part of video game legacy.  If there’s a video game, Wolfenstein is in the first room. It is the start of the wave that shaped the world of gaming,” he continued. “On a personal level, I played this when I was younger and it was mind-blowing.  I never then of course dreamed that I was going to be working with it. It’s both an honor and a legacy.”

Not everyone is pleased with the announcement of a new Wolfenstein. Designer of Epic Mickey and Deus Ex Warren Spector wrote this scathing comment on Facebook:

“Did the world really need another Wolfenstein game? Did we need a generically dark, monochromatic, FPS, kill-the-Nazi-giant-robot game? Uh. No. The world did not. I am so tired of stuff like this.  Oh, and could we all just agree we’ll never use the generic gravelly-whisper trailer voice guy ever again? And one more thing: Please stop using Jimi Hendrix to promote your adolescent male power fantasies.”

Despite  Mr. Spector ‘s tough opinion on the game there are many that are excited to see what MachineGames has planned and they talk about that in the preview video below:
