Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot told investors yesterday that he does not expect Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag to outsell its predecessor Assassin’s Creed III.

“We are actually pushing to achieve more than last year because we think the pirate segment is a great segment that can generate a lot more on a worldwide basis than what was achieved last year,” said Guillemot. “But we wanted to be prudent on our expectations so that it can probably be a bonus if it comes.”

It is understandable why Ubisoft is trying to lower expectations for the upcoming addition to the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Last year’s Assassin’s Creed III sold immensely well, 12.5 million copies so far, and it is definitely not good business practice to expect every game to be the best selling one of the franchise. But, the Assassin’s Creed franchise has never let down so far. Each game has performed extremely well, and with pirates being the main subject matter of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, you can count on people to be very interested in it.
