Squid Grips are one of the most popular controller grips on the market today. They are made for both Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 controllers and are supposed to help with sweat absorption and overall comfort during long gaming sessions. I picked up a set of Squid Grips a couple weeks ago to put them to the test.

Putting Squid Grips on your Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 controller is a very easy process. The package comes with a manual that gives you step by step directions, or you can go on Squid Grips YouTube channel and watch the application videos there. Basically, you want to make sure that your controller is clean by wiping it down with a damp rag, then all you have to do is line the grips up properly and stick them on. It’s a very easy process. Also, if you happen to make a small mistake, you can easily re-position the grip by peeling it off slowly and placing it where you want it to be. Overall, the Squid Grips application process was easy and painless, as it should be.

The only issue I found with the overall application process is that after application and a little bit of playing, the ends of the grips would sometimes come off the controller. It wasn’t obtrusive and it didn’t affect the way the grips felt, in fact it was mostly an aesthetic defect. The only reason I noticed the issue is because I kept looking at the controller to make sure nothing like that was happening. After I noticed the issue, I pressed the grips back into place, gamed some more, and checked again, and the edges had come up a little bit again. This could have happened for a multitude of reason, some of which could be my fault, but I wouldn’t say that it takes away from the overall quality of the product.

Comfort was the first thing that I was concerned about when I first got my Squid Grips in the mail. I like the feel and comfort of the Xbox 360 controller as it is, and I was hoping that the new grips wouldn’t interfere with that in any way. The first time I played with them I was a little thrown off by the new feel and texture that was in my hands, but after a while, it felt like the grips weren’t even there. I even found them to be a little more comfortable in situations when I was gripping the controller a little more tightly. Squid Grips give you an extra layer of cushion between your skin and the hard plastic of the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 controller, so if you tend to grip your controller a little tighter in tense situations, Squid Grips will give you that extra little bit of comfort.

I was happy with the overall comfort level that Squid Grips provide. It definitely took a little while to get used to them, but once you get the feel, you will really enjoy them.

Sweat Absorption:

Sweat Absorption is the main feature of Squid Grips. Anyone who has gamed for an extended period of time can tell you that your hands will definitely sweat, especially if you are playing an intense game like Battlefield or Call of Duty. Sweaty hands can lead to a slick controller, which can lead to a slip or drop at the wrong moment that can get you killed in the heat of battle. After my first long gaming session with Squid Grips, about 3 hours or so, I found out that the sweat absorption works pretty well. Your hands will definitely still sweat, but the moisture will not transfer to a hard plastic surface where it can become slick. At first it feels kind of odd when your hands sweat and the moisture is absorbed by the grips. Your first thought might be, “What manner of sorcery is this?!?”, but I assure you, there is no sorcery, that’s just how they work.

With these grips on, you will never have to worry about a slick Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 controller again. They definitely wick away the sweat like they say.

If you are in the market for a set of controller grips, Squid Grips are the ones you want, and for the low price of $15, you won’t have to worry about saving money to get them. After a few hours of gaming with them, you will feel like they are just a part of the controller. Sweat will disappear off your hands and your grip on the competition will never be tighter.
