Minecraft fans already know the amazing, sandbox world the game has to offer. But since the game was ported to the Xbox 360 via the Xbox Live Arcade in May of last year, 6,000,000 new players have been let in on the secret. That’s according to 4J, the company that ported Minecraft to the Xbox, and there’s no reason to doubt it. As of a 1:00 PM tweet on the 4J Studios Twitter feed on the 26th, the game has officially sold over six million copies and there’s no slowing it down.

And there’s other excitement in the world of Minecraft. Scheduled for release in April, the game will see a re-release on disc. Additionally, Update 9 is likely to see a release within the first half of the year. For those of us who already know that build anything thrill that Minecraft provides, that sense that if we can imagine it, we can make it happen, the future is looking pretty good. And for those of us who haven’t experienced the awesomeness that is Minecraft yet, it’s about to get so much easier to do so.
