Granblue Fantasy: Relink was envisioned as a collaboration between Cygames and Platinum Games that’d bring the world of Cygames’ wildly popular mobile game Granblue Fantasy to life on consoles. Both Platinum’s expertise with action titles and the popularity of the Granblue Fantasy made this project into a highly anticipated title to look out for.

Until now, the project has been co-developed between the two companies. However, from February 5th and going forward, Cygames will be handling 100% of the game’s development internally. Platinum Games, on the other hand, has completed its contract with Cygames and will no longer be working on Granblue Fantasy: Relink.

Platinum Games is no longer listed on the game’s official website. You can check out a before-and-after image, courtesy of Gematsu. Likewise, Platinum’s official page no longer lists the game among its titles.

Cygames wanted to let fans know that they will “remain committed to delivering a game that meets the expectation of our fan-base and gamers everywhere.” As Platinum Games, they iterated that their contract may be over, but they encouraged fans to continue supporting the game going forward.

It might sound like bad news, but rest assured. Platinum has merely completed its contract. Rather than thinking of it as a development setback, it might be most appropriate to think of it as Platinum completing its main intended role and leaving the remainder of the development to Cygames.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink is in development for PS4. Keep an eye out for a release date in the future.
